Bring your goals nearer

Over time, your investments and savings can help secure the future you want for you and your family.

RRSP

A registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) is a type of savings account specially designed to help Canadians save for their retirement. It comes with tax advantages that let you save and grow your money now, while deducting your RRSP contributions from your current tax bill. When it’s time to take your money out, you’ll pay taxes on the withdrawal amount, but likely at a much lower rate than what you’d pay today.

TFSA

With a tax-free savings account (TFSA), you get a registered investment or savings account that lets you put aside up to $6,000/year. There is no initial tax benefit upon opening the account. Interest accumulated by this account will not be taxed. This allows you to redeem the account with no tax implications.

Non-registered

Your contributions to a non-registered account are not tax-deductible. Investments in a non-registered account can earn interest or dividend income that is taxed as it is earned or generate capital gains that are taxed as they are realized. This investment income is taxed as it is earned or realized, but withdrawals are not.

RESP

A registered education savings plan (RESP) is a savings product opened by anybody (parent, grandparent, guardian, friend, etc.) who wants to save for a child's post-secondary education. Contributions to an RESP attract government grants of at least 20%, with certain provinces offering even more.

Guaranteed Investment Funds

Guaranteed investment funds, like mutual funds, are market-based investments. A large pool of money belonging to many people is invested in stocks, bonds or other securities with the goal of increasing the value of the entire pool.  However, because guaranteed investment fund contracts are insurance contracts, they have special benefits that mutual funds do not.

Guaranteed Investment Certificate

Designed for people who want to protect their principal and earn a guaranteed rate of return, different products have different features. There are short-term, long-term and flexible-maturity dates, as well as a daily interest investment. Because of their many features, guaranteed interest products are an important component of both registered and non-registered savings plans – as well as retirement income plans.
